The 2022 American computer-animated adventure movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is made by DreamWorks Animation and released by Universal Pictures.

The movie, which is co-directed by Januel Mercado and Joel Crawford, is the follow-up to the Puss in Boots spin-off and the sixth entry in the Shrek series.

Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault reprise their roles as the title character and Kitty Softpaws, respectively, in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. They are joined by Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, John Mulaney, Wagner Moura, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Anthony Mendez who voice new characters in the movie.

The movie, which is set after Shrek Forever After, follows Puss in Boots as he sets out to locate the fabled Last Wish for the Wishing Star by collaborating with Kitty and Perrito to wish back his first eight of nine lives on the fabled Last Wishing Star.

Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves was revealed as the movie's title in June 2014. The project was resurrected in November 2018 after spending years in development purgatory, with Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri confirming his involvement as an executive producer.

In February 2019, it was revealed that the movie will be directed by Bob Persichetti, who served as the original movie's head of narrative and is one of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-three Verse's filmmakers. Later, together with Mercado, Crawford was named the new director in March 2021.

Similar to DreamWorks' prior film The Bad Guys, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse served as an influence for the animation style of this movie, giving it a look that is reminiscent of children's book pictures.

The crew concentrated more on a painterly style design, employing new technologies to make the movie appear like a fairy-tale world, rather than the more realistic aesthetic first utilised in Shrek.

The movie received largely positive reviews from critics and was a critical and financial success, earning over $299 million worldwide on a $90 million production budget, becoming the second-highest-grossing animated movie of 2022, and receiving praise for its animation, story, themes, voice acting, and humour. Many people thought the movie was better than its direct predecessor.

It garnered nominations for Best Animated Feature at the 28th Critics' Choice Awards, Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards, and Best Animated Film at the 76th British Academy Film Awards. It also received a mention for Best Animated Feature at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
